Evie Demetriou / Nice to see you :)

Nice to see you :) is a performance which explores the contemporary issue of cyber relationships and the choice we make for voluntary exposure through various social networks such as facebook, myspace, youtube. It is about the need of personal and physical contact and the lack of it in today's society.

The work is interactive and uses movement, speech and multimedia. It is the result of a long collaboration between the choreographer Evie Demetriou with the multimedia artist Giorgos Sisamos.

Evie is a choreographer and performer based in Cyprus.

Having graduated in Urban Planning and worked intensively in London and Paris, Evie returned to her first passion - dance and performance with studies at the Laban Centre in London and with scholarship at Limon Institute and Dance Space Centre in New York. She is a 2004 danceweb scholarship recipient.

Since 2002 she performed with various choreographers such as Alain Buffard, Felix Ruckert, Arron Wendels, Laura Flowers and collaborated with most of the Cyprus based choreographers.

In 2004 she forms the En drasi, the umbrella that hosts her chorographic work. Her work can be characterised by numerous collaborations with visual and video artists, DJs, and musicians, while often it is infused by multimedia.

Her latest solo work “Nice to see you :)”, a multimedia dance performance, is part of her research on virtual relationships and the lack of contact in today’s society. The piece was premiered in Cyprus in January 2010 is now continuing it’s touring in Cyprus and abroad.
