In collaboration with three male dancers, Arno Schuitemaker created the dance performance EXIT, based on the need to escape daily reality in our more and more complex existence. The inability to
relate to a meaningful world takes sometimes shape in intense forms: addictions to drugs, alcohol, and video games. During the performance, the three dancers will not avoid the danger of taking risks, with their raw and dynamic dance they explore their physical limits, and they even know how to challenge the magic of theatre.

While the audience sits around them, the dancers use the performance to “experiment” in a prologue and 4 scenes to find out if they can escape their daily reality – which is reinforced by
mentioning the date, time and location of the specific performance at the beginning of the show: the reality of the moment. The use of video camera is for the performers a way to record their
“experiments”, because if they would succeed, then they have a recording of their successful attempt. Each performance is for the performers a new try to escape daily reality, but will they
succeed?

Background Information

After Arno Schuitemaker graduated at the University of Technology Delft, he decided to drastically change his life and to study contemporary dance at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg, Holland. In two years, he already made more than 8 performances, amongst them Proxemics (2007), ZONE (2008), and in 2009 he created R-ated for Legitimate Bodies Dance Company (Ireland). He also participated in Choreoroam with 11 other European choreographers to have workshops, research seminars and residencies in Zagreb (Croatia), Rotterdam (Holland), Bassano del Grappa (Italy), Copenhagen (Denmark), London (United Kingdom) and Madrid (Spain).
