An uncompromising portrait of a generation cheated by misery but which finds the strength to progress, step by step through the thrill of dancing. On the steps presents a group of four dancers with solitary paths, fragmented, continually alternating between the absence of movement and controlled, mechanical body movements like a puppet. With the warm voice of a singer present on the stage featuring the pulsating accents of a techno score, the dance tunes in with the rhythms, is electrified and won over its beat with an energy regularly tempered by immobility. A dancing ambiance for a procession of « super dressed » couples who fill the stage, but who also freeze before meeting for a slow dance which emphasises the feeling of being stuck and fixed. For Florent Mahoukou, "choreography is a space to move around in and not simply to be filled", a mental space where the body comes into play and sets up its own avoidance or action strategies.
Florent Mahoukou (Congo) was one of 3 winners of the Danse l'Afrique Danse! competition with this work.
