Forgotten

"Forgotten", presents a mind game. Ugren places her body in such positions that at times they seem like visual illusions. She has an ongoing conversation with herself and George Koulas who accompanies her. She mimics everyday gestures and expressions, rituals and superstitions of the community and uses her voice in a subtle way.

Although, she does not say words or sentences she avoids the convoluted, unclear use of syllables. The piece is literal and abstract at the same time, which is what poses the challenge.

Ugren's work is not pretty but contains corporeal beauty. Her movement is not conventional, yet it is essence of her work. She is honest as a performer and choreographer and remains true to the art of modern dance".

Milena Ugren Koulas was born in Serbia, 1979.
She graduated from the Rotterdamse Dance Academy in 2003. During her time in The Netherlands she worked with several choreographers namely: Andre Gringras, Rinus Sprong, Tom Stuart, Sanja Hasagic, Xing Liang, Dylan Newcomb, Jacek Luminski. Since 2004 she has been living in Cyprus. She has been performing in numerous different Cypriot productions.

In 2005 she was awarded with a scholarship from: DanceWEB Europe Scholarship Program in Vienna ( part of ImPuls Tanz Festival ). Ugren has presented her work in Poland, Cezech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and France.
