Opening in the Capitol Theater
18:30h Philadanco (US): „Repertory“, Ch: Christopher Huggins u.a.
Philadanco's creative integrity is rooted in its preservation of the African-American contemporary dance traditions and the currency of today's African-American choreographers. The company is an important producer of the most important African-American choreographers working today, including Christopher Huggins, Jawole Zollar, and Ronald K. Brown. The dancers are powerful, dynamic, and passionate. The program for the Tanzmesse will include three works, including the European premiere of a new work and an archival work from the repertory.
following….

The company Retouramont from France clamber up the walls of the Capitol Theater. In the deep of the night, dark and stony beings emerge from the mortar to contemplate the outside world. Under the foundations of the walls live huge caryatides supporting the architecture above. They extract slowly from the architecture by following edges, dare a small jump to finally dash towards another wall and invade the void above our heads. The caryatides come to life on the walls of the Capitol Theater for a night dance between heaven and earth.

Long performance night in the Capitol Theater!

21:00 h: Sol Picó de dansa (ES): „El Llac de les Mosques“, Ch: Sol Picó
23:00 h: Granhǿj Dans (DK): „dance me to the End on/off Love“, Ch: Palle Granhǿj

The evening begins with Sol Pico Cia de dansa and »El Llac de les Mosques« (Flies Lake) sets questions of gender and the search for evolution through change to rhythms of rock, blues, flamenco and more. We see Sol as lead dancer of the piece accompanied by the musicians, a male dancer and
a stagehand-actor. Sol Picó founded her company in 1994. She mixes genres and styles and is recognized by her unmistakable sense of humor.

A two hour visual concert for those who love themusic of Cohen. Danish choreographer
Palle Granhøj explores in this new work called “Dance me to the End on/off love” the concept »dance-concert« creating a series of images through the live performance of music of the Canadian poet and
singer Leonard Cohen. Granhøj, whose work is described by international critics as being highly original, magical, touching and broadly appealing, unfolds once again new dimensions of the stage language, this time whilst confronting the music and lyrics – a universe of longing and melancholy – portrayed by Cohen.

19:30 h Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus: Silesian Dance Theatre (PL): “Panopticon or/and a parable of the Poppy”, Ch: Jacek Łuminśki

21:00 h Capitol Theater: Compagnie Thor (BE): „To the Ones I Love“, Ch: Thierry Smits
Ein ästhetisches Highlight bietet die Tanzcompagnie Thor an diesem Abend. „To the Ones I Love“ hat keine Geschichte.

Saturday, 28.08.10

19:30 h Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus: Dot 504 (CZ): „100 wounded tears“, Ch. Jozef Frucek, Linda Kapetanea
The performance, rather crude and chaotic but also humorous, tells the story of seven characters searching for their ten thousand lost dreams and one worthy sense of life. The performance was introduced at Fringe Festival Edinburgh 2009 and it won the Herald Angel Award. DOT 504 is the first fully professional physical dance theater company in the Czech Republic which was founded in 2006 by its artistic director Lenka Ottová.

20:30 h tanzhaus nrw – 3 Performances / 1 Ticket
RubberbanDance Group (CA): „Loan Sharking”, Ch: Victor Quijada
Spellbound Dance Company (IT): “Downshifting”, Ch: Mauro Astolfi
Shang Chi Move (TW): “Dialogue II”, Ch: Shang Chi Sun

RUBBERBANDance Group is Victor Quijada’s exploratory base to create a new concept of dance: a contemporary style that blends the spontaneity and exuberance of hip hop with the refinement of classical dance. Beating with the fresh pulse of street demeanour and an acute understanding of theatrical staging, the movement experimentation Quijada is pursuing gained international recognition.

»Downshifting« is a short piece that is a perfect synthesis of the aesthetic and choreographic characteristics of the Spellbound Dance Company. Spellbound mixes styles and is a platform for new stylish experiments. For Astolfi the performance is a means to disclose emotions, images and movements in constant evolution.

Is it only flesh and blood that form the basic structure of a living being? Do religion and politics influence the individual body performance? Do we recognize our body or does the body choose the right organic incarnation? »DIALOGUE II« is inspired by »4.48 Psychosis« by Sarah Kane. It was awarded the 1st prize of choreography at the 12th international solo dance theater festival in Stuttgart in 2008.
