Background Information

Choreographer and dancer Riku Immonen is one of the Finnish dance field’s dedicated workers. During his 20 year career he has worked as an dancer for almost fifty contemporary dance pieces, and at least twenty Theater and opera productions.

From 2004, he has also worked as a choreographer, and nowadays he’s most known from his work with young audience; creating pieces for kid’s and youngster’s. His interactive performance for kids ”Movement men” (2007) was the first performance for children ever presented in Zodiak – Centre For New Dance.

Strength in his work, is the huge knowledge of dance. During his years as a dancer he has danced almost everything you can imagine, ballet, jazz, tap etc. Also having four sons, helps him with creating the pieces. The biggest fans live at home, and having cruel, judgemental home critics is a clear advantage.

2009 Immonen was granted with 5-year personal grant from Arts Council Finland for his work with children.
