Background Information

inprocess collective is an ensemble of artists (graduates from MA Performance Making, Goldsmiths University of London), from three different countries (Czech Republic, England, Portugal). They come from various performance disciplines. Through self-set tasks, devising and collaboration they create work which is both present and performed and which combines, theatre, performance art, dance and multi-media; drawing on personal experience and autobiographical material. The process and performance are interlaced, offering audiences an insight into the artists’ explorations of content.

Start Now, is performed by four performers and is looking at the question of documentation. What do we document in everyday lives? The process was crucial for us. We documented one hour of our every day lives for 8 days. Each member of the group sent a text message saying, ‘start now’ to the others on selected days. The receiver was taken by surprise and therefore could not prepare what would be documented; he/she had to record the ensuing hour in any form (video, text, collecting objects). We then used this original recorded material as the starting point for our devising. Our goal was not to reproduce the recorded documentation on the stage, but rather present the issues, which evolved from the process. This became the main theme of the piece: the challenge of four individuals trying to transmit their experiences truthfully on stage, performatively.
