Yokohama Dance Collection R is Japan’s largest contemporary dance festival, with the prestigious Yokohama Solo x Duo + as its core. For this year’s event, in light of the changing circumstances under which choreographers create in today’s increasingly diverse world, the organizers have clarified the entry rules and conditions to help trail blaze more new forms of physical expression. It’s a reborn, recharged competition.
The preliminary judging, based on videotaped entries, was conducted in September, 2009. The fifteen promising young choreographers from three nations who were selected as finalists will present their work at the final judging in February, 2010. The prizewinners will receive opportunities to study in France, to participate in festivals overseas, and to have other opportunities to perform. What glorious new talents will soar off into the wide world of dance from Yokohama? All eyes are on Yokohama, all the world’s stage.
