Critical Issues - the Springback chat room goes live
Sunday 24 April, 2016 | 10am–12pm
The Springback chat room goes live! Twenty Springback writers from this and previous Spring Forward festivals have assembled in Pilsen, travelling from Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and the UK. These young dance writer/activists form four Panels to discuss with seasoned leaders:
10.05 - Two's company, three's a crowd - but here I am alone (with you)
More than 1 in 3 proposals to Aerowaves this year were solos. What are the aesthetics of 1, 2, 3? Is a solo a choice or an expediency?
Led by Honne Dohrmann
10.25 - 'Dance first. Think later. It's the natural order'
Was Samuel Beckett right? How can arts and culture take the lead in an increasingly fractured Europe?
Led by Wieke Eringa
10.45 - It's so Czech
Despite artists moving everywhere, are cultural differences still present in European choreography? Does it matter?
Led by Bruno Heynderickx
11.05 - The dazed gaze
Can only dancers fully appreciate dance? Is entertainment a taboo word in contemporary dance? What's lost when dance seeks new audiences beyond theatres?
Led by Heather Maitland
The Springback critics and mentors Sanjoy Roy, Donald Hutera, Nina Vangeli and Oonagh Duckworth will then lead a discussion with the audience on issues raised including:
11.30 - A picture is worth a thousand words
In the last couple of years, the internet has changed from a text-based to an image-based medium. Where lies authority in critical debate? Has crowd-sourced opinion won the day? Where now for dance words?
